give an example of a linear equation whose graph is a horizontal line and a vertical line. horizontal___________ vertical_____________

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

horizontal: y=2 vertical x=1 |dw:1360277912080:dw|

y = 0 is a horizontal line. as is y = 1, y = 2, etc... as long as you don't have an x term. x= 0, x = 1, x=2, etc... are all vertical lines. These are hard to understand. y = 0 is the set of all points whose y coordinate is 0. It doesn't matter what x is, as long as y = 0. Naturally, it's a horizontal line. x = 3, for example, is the set of all points (3,y). Again, it doesn't matter what y is, as long as x is 3. Naturally, this is a vertical line.
