what is semipermeable membrane
a membrane that allows some molecules to pass through but not others
SPM is dat membrane that allows only the solvent thru it n not the solute particles.....
the semipermaeble membrane is selective in nature. it allows the solvent through but alos the solute with the use of co-tranportation. For the sake of being more specific, lets use those who have diabetes. In people with Type 2 diabetes, the insulin that brings the sugar into the cell is somehow resistant to the sugar attaching itself to the insulin. This could be the insulin receptor is the wrong shape. What results is increase levels of sugar in the blood. So the semi-permeable membrane does have a mechanisim in place to bring solutes into the cell. This membrane also regulates fluid coming into and out of the cell. it works to help homostassis of the cell. The semi-permeable membrane also plays a part in maintaining the shape of the cell through the phospholipid bi-layer which is where the transport of sugar through the use of cotransport molecules occurs.
