Find an equation for the tangent line to the graph of f(x)=ln(x^2 - 1) at the point where x = 2

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

can you find the 1st derivative ..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x/(x^2 -1) ?

What step do I take next?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

thats great... thats the equation for the slope of the tangent... so substitute x = 2 and you will have the slope at x = 2 you also need a point if you have x = 2 and substitute it into the original equation you will get a y value... then the the point slope formula for the equation of the tangent
