Given the two points (0,4) and (2, 6), what would the numerator of the equation for slope be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the slope is the change in y divided by the change in x. Therefore, the numerator of this equation would the the change in y. But there's a catch: In one method, your slope will be (6-4)/(2-0), in another, it could be (4-6)/(0-2). I'm not too sure which one qualifies as the right answer but after ALL the simplification process has been done, I'd argue it is 1. This is very tricky though.
