What is the slope of the line that has an equation of y = x - 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lines in the form of y = mx + b have are written in "slope-intercept" form--the name is actually obvious. m is the slope of the line, b is the y-intercept of said line. Here, m = 1 because 1*x = x. b = -3. Thus, your slope is 1 and your y-intercept is -3.

the slope of a line given by its equation is always the numerical coefficient of your x. but just be sure that the numerical coefficient of your y is always 1. on the given, your slope is 1.
