In the 1700s, Great Britain started moving from an agrarian society to an industrialized society. England was one of the largest producers of wool and cotton during this period. They raised sheep and imported cotton from India and America, providing the material for textile production. Textiles had been produced in the home, but the time-consuming process of converting the sheep’s wool and cotton blossoms to cloth spawned new inventions to help meet the demand. As the new efficient machines were created, larger spaces were needed to convert resources into cloth; thus, the factory came into use. The factory was a building large enough to contain all of these new inventions and increase the amount of goods produced. There you go :)
