It depends on what gender and age the pioneer was, really. Obviously, if you were too old to walk, you would be inside of the covered wagon, and if you were too young, I.e. an infant or a toddler, you would also be writing in the wagon with the mother. With this said, the ride wasn't comfortable at all, since the trail wasn't even slightly paved in any way. The only reason people even knew the trail was there was because the trails were used over and over again, thus showing the path.

Lol L:D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Most children and adults, of either gender, preferred to walk, however.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. Why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol, ari :P "Bumpy! The sturdy wagons had no springs, and the roads were not smooth paved roads but were full of potholes and rocks. Every time the big wheels rolled over a bump, everything in the wagon got bounced and jostled. The dirt roads were muddy when it rained, and dusty when it didn't rain. Most of the people walked, and only rode in the wagon when tired or sick." http://www.blm.gov/or/oregontrail/education-kids-homework.php
