simplify 12w/4w^4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Start by looking at the 12/4 and w/w^4 separately. You can reduce the whole numbers and use exponent laws to simplify the w terms

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

What is 12 divided by 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got an answer but i dont know wether to add a W or take away a W

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

What answer did you get? You should be subtracting exponents when dividing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3w3

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

w^3 is correct... however your 3 should be on in the numerator... w^3 should be in the denominator... 3/w^3

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Because if you look at it... w/w^4 the bigger exponent is at the bottom so where ever the bigger number is .. is where the exponent needs to be and it will be positive
