You are driving to visit a friend in another state who lives 440 miles away. You are driving 55 miles per hour and have already driven 275 miles. Write and solve an equation to find how much longer in hours you must drive to reach your destination. (make sure to identify what the variables represent)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Your distance remaining to drive = the total distance - amount already driven. You know both of those numbers. To find the time it will take you to reach your destination, plug the result from above into the formula \(d = rt\) where \(d\) is distance, \(r\) is rate or speed, and \(t\) is time. You'll solve the resulting equation for \(t\) to find out how many hours of driving you have left.
