Is a duplicate gene a fake gene right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Reaper534

OpenStudy (anonymous):

honestly im not sure bt i think it s is tho @Opcode

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, a duplicate gene is just a copy of another gene.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok thnax u guys:]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No prob :) Good luck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do u know what can produce a duplicate gene? I think its crossing over during meosis. what do u think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Duplications arise from an event termed unequal crossing-over that occurs during meiosis between misaligned homologous chromosomes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So i was right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thnx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you help me with another question @Momiko.-. ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok can u explain to me what a molecular clock is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A molecular clock is the changes in the amino acid sequences of proteins that take place during evolution and speciation, and from which the dates of branchings of taxonomic groups can be deduced.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Opcode ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So like fossiles that have been baried?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pretty much.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kk thnkx. i hv another qestion:]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Shoot. May take a minute though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its ok i can ask some one else :]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay Good luck on whatever you're working on!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol thnx it could take a while im helping some one right now in math lol:P im on a role:]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know the feeling :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dont knew genes come from the duplication, and then mutation, of existing genes...right @Opcode

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iluvreading can u help me please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats your question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dont new genes come from the duplication, and then mutation, of existing genes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Gene duplication is a randomly occurring mutational event within cells during which a stretch of DNA, and all genes that might be located on it, is duplicated. The two copies of a gene resulting from such a duplication are inherited by all descendants of the cell in which it occurred and are thus prone to random mutation and natural selection.

kk thnx
