What operation can you use to determine the number of bits in a megabyte? What operation can you use to determine the number of bits in a gigabyte? I'm 100% stuck on these :\ I just know its related to scientific notation for the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well it matters if you interpret a megabyte as 1024 kilobyte or 1000 kilobyte. But since you say scientific notation I'll guess its 1000. There are 8 bits in one byte. And one million 10^6 bytes in one megabyte. Therefore it is 8*10^6 bits in one megabyte. Look up giga and do the same thing :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are 8x10^6 bits in a megabyte (MB). So 1MB = (8x10^6 bits / 1MB) There are 8x10^9 bits in a gigabyte (GB). So 1GB = (8x10^9 bits / 1GB)
