Mathematics 8 Online
OpenStudy (anonymous):

127=8(1-2n)-n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

n=-7 factor in 8 to (1-2n) and you get 127=8-16n-n which is 127=8-17n subtract 8 from both sides and you get 119=-17n then divide each side by -17 and you get n=-7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does this make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sort of but you need to times 8 and 1 then 8 times two

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes you multiply both terms in the parentheses by 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah and then thats where i get stuck where do go from there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well what did you get when you multiplied

OpenStudy (anonymous):

write out the whole problem after you multiplied

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 8 and 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8 and 16n you can't forget about the n that is attached to the 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

16n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now you combine like terms on the right side of the equation and you should get 8-17n correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then all you have to do is get n by itself. so subtract 8 from both sides and you get 119=-17n. and since you're multiplying n by -17 just divide both sides by -17 and you get -7=n
