Are these solutions to the following system of equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-14x+2y=-8\] \[y=7x-4\] |dw:1360810705034:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could you post what you have so far in solving the equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-14x+2y=-8\] and \[y=7x-4\] means \[-14x+2(7x-4)=-8\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how does that tell me if these numbers are solutions or not?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve for \(x\) via \[-14x+2(7x-4)=-8\] \[-14x+14x-8=-8\] hmmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

looks like you have \[-8=-8\] which means both lines are the same so all ordered pairs that fit will work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try \((3,17)\) i think that works

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y=7x-4\] \[17=7\times 3-4\] \[17=21-4\] \[17=17\checkmark\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all the others do not work, you can check them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you(:\[(3, 17)\] does work, but there is also another one that works that I can't seem to find. I must be doing something wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\((0,-4)\) works, but you typed in \((0,4)\) which does not none of the others are even close

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm.. thats strange.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-1, -11) works!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\((-1,-11)\) also works

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I made a type up there, that's why I messed up.. :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

glad you caught it
