The map below shows Europe in 1619. Use the map to answer the following question: How did England's geography help to make it a naval power? Since much of England was forested, there were ample resources for shipbuilding. Its location at the northwestern edge of Europe made it a natural trading post for the continent. As an island nation, England depended upon a strong navy for defense and for trade. England's numerous gold and silver mines made it a target for invasion.

The Enlightenment and Revolutions is the pre-test about Can you help?

OpenStudy (swag):

You do know pre tests are 0 points right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea but i like to go over it with people

OpenStudy (swag):

mmm well hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@PSI

OpenStudy (opcode):

Since much of England was forested, there were ample resources for shipbuilding. \(\text{The above MAYBE it just because it is true.}\) Its location at the northwestern edge of Europe made it a natural trading post for the continent. \(\text{That's no true, it's more of north west.}\) As an island nation, England depended upon a strong navy for defense and for trade. \(\text{England is NOT an island. Great Britain is tho.}\) England's numerous gold and silver mines made it a target for invasion. \(\text{As to my knowledge it's NOT true}\) Okay so I think it's A: Since much of England was forested, there were ample resources for shipbuilding.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay can you help me with the second question ?

OpenStudy (opcode):

Sure :)

OpenStudy (opcode):

I have a question. Can I choose more than one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Uhh its a pre-test so there has to be one question but pick two and lets chose one together

OpenStudy (opcode):

Okay. Let me think ^_^. They each have their own hereditary monarchy. \(\text{The above is TRUE}\) They each have their own national currency. \(\text{The above is TRUE in 9/22 EU countries}\) Each has its own democratic government. \(\text{False, they took away popular sovereignty!}\) Each practices Roman Catholicism. \(\text{I have no clue on this one...}\) So it's either A or B.

OpenStudy (opcode):

Sure next question. But wouldn't A be more logical?

OpenStudy (opcode):

It's A or B. "Fewer people would identify as atheist, because people were not willing to share alternative religious beliefs publically." This is partly true because the church and state/country was strongly tied during the time.

OpenStudy (opcode):

Fewer people would believe in a single God because most people believed in multiple gods. So? The chat doesn't count that... It counts if they either believed in god or something else.

OpenStudy (opcode):

Nope... It's: B. Fewer people would identify as atheist, because people were not willing to share alternative religious beliefs publically.

OpenStudy (opcode):

Yes. Sure!

OpenStudy (opcode):

I'm not sure it's A... Where was the Ottoman Empire located? I don't think it's on that map...

OpenStudy (opcode):

Oops. I'm blind :O Okay I agree it's A ^_^.

OpenStudy (opcode):

Hmm. Constitutional monarchy = Limited power. Absolute monarchy = Unrestricted power. What do you think it is?

OpenStudy (opcode):

Spain = Constitutional monarchy. England = Absolute monarchy. (Remember this is the past) So I think its: "The monarch held sole control over all decisions in England, while the monarch shared his power with a governing body in Spain."

OpenStudy (opcode):

Yes.

OpenStudy (opcode):

Yes. I'm just not sure about this one :|

OpenStudy (opcode):

Yes. Skip.

OpenStudy (opcode):

"At its core, the Renaissance was a movement dedicated to the rediscovery and use of classical learning, that is to say knowledge and attitudes from the Ancient Greek and Roman eras. Renaissance literally means ‘rebirth’, and Renaissance thinkers believed the period between themselves and the fall of Rome, which they labelled the Middle Ages, had seen a decline in cultural achievement compared with the earlier eras. Participants intended, through the study of classical texts, textual criticism and classical techniques, to both reintroduce the heights of those ancient days and improve the situation of their contemporaries. Some of these classical texts survived only amongst Islamic scholars and were brought back into Europe at this time." So by that classical text were used and important. So I think it's: Increased interest in classical texts resulted in greater access to learning and eventually encouraged formal scientific experimentation. OpenStudy (opcode):

Yes. Next question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is Fun Use the image below to answer the following question: How might Leonardo da Vinci's sketches of the human body, such as the one above, have inspired later scientists? His depictions of the human form made subsequent dissections unnecessary. The sketches showed that the human body could be studied as a system, using scientific principles.---- I think its this one! His depictions of the human form emphasized that it was a simple subject to study. The sketches popularized the scientific study of anatomy among common people.

OpenStudy (opcode):

Hmm. Same... Hey I've go to go... Sorry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh :( When will you be back on so we can try to finish this

OpenStudy (opcode):

I'm not sure. I'm so sleepy :3 Try to post your link in the chatboxs below.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay See ya :(
