OpenStudy (falco276):

What is the relationship between an individual named Pinus palustris and an individual named Pinus elliottii?

OpenStudy (falco276):

They belong to the same species. They belong to the same genus. They have one parent in common. They live in different areas.

OpenStudy (blues):

In scientific names, the genus is named first, then the species. For example, humans are Homo sapiens, where we belong in genus "homo" and our species is called "sapiens." Hope that hint is helpful. :)

OpenStudy (falco276):

Thanks, so much!

OpenStudy (blues):

Not a prob. :)

OpenStudy (falco276):

awesomez.

OpenStudy (falco276):

wait but what does the Pinus, mean?

OpenStudy (blues):

Honestly I don't know what Pinus means - I'm not a taxonomist, nor am I a plant biologist. In this case the question doesn't ask you what it means - it just asks you whether it is a species name or a genus name.

OpenStudy (falco276):

i see. Okay. :D

OpenStudy (falco276):

Im guessing the answer is A?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer was B, Same Genus, not the same species. As @blues said, The first word is the genus and the second is the species. They only had the first word in common.
