The long term worldwide effects was politically it sent the world into insecurity and gave the US a bad image. The general response to Hiroshima and Nagasaki was to arm your country with atomic bombs, and since the US used them in WWII, all the countries in the world (except Germany and Japan) are striving for nuclear weapons. For every country that acquires nuclear weapons, the world becomes less secure. Russia tested its first in 1949, Britain in 1952, France in 1960, China in 1964, India in 1974, Pakistan in 1998, and North Korea in 2006. Other countries that possess them include Israel, while Iran, Syria and Myanmar are alleged. As more and more countries acquire them, the world tries to stay safe by creating treaties such as the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1968 which limits the use and spread of nuclear weapons. Countries may choose not to sign, and India, Israel, Pakistan and North Korea are the four nuclear states to not sign it. Since Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the world has lived in fear of rogue states in possession of nuclear weapons. At present, this fear hasn't been relieved. In addition, since Hiroshima and Nagasaki, over 2000 atomic bomb tests have occured on this planet, most of them in areas such as the Pacific, which has caused much worldwide environmental damage. The other effect was the US unfortunately having the shameful name of being the first and only nation to have used weapons of mass destruction on humans.
