OpenStudy (sh3lsh):

Find the derivative and simplify (3t+2)/(t-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use the quotient rule for calculus to differentiate. This site has the formula for the quotient rule and a worked-out example: http://www.wyzant.com/Help/Math/Calculus/Differentiation/Quotient_Rule.aspx.

OpenStudy (sh3lsh):

Okay. I do this lemme show you my steps and tell me what I'm doing wrong.

OpenStudy (sh3lsh):

3t+2(1)- 3(t-1) all divided by (t-1)^2. Simplifying the top: 3t+2 -3t +3 = 5 5 ---- (t-1)^2

OpenStudy (sh3lsh):

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=%283t%2B2%29%2F%28t-1%29 It's -5 on top. Why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're multiplying the numerator by (t-1)?

OpenStudy (sh3lsh):

Huh? No. Dividing by (t-1)^2. This is a relatively easy problem, I just can't see it. Could you work it out?
