is zero an element of a set of positive rational numbers?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Zero is a rational number, so yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but is it a positive rational number

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Actually... no it's defined as neither positive or negative.

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

No. It's the only real number which is neither positive nor negative.

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

A real number x is positive if and only if x > 0 This inequality is strict, it's not greater than or equal to, just greater than.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so,if i had a set of rational numbers ,then will 0 be an element of the set?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Rational numbers - yes Positive rational - no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank u

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

No prob. You can express 0 as 0/1, 0/2 etc, which makes it a rational number (able to be expressed as a fraction)
