help with transformation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me see your file.

OpenStudy (harsimran_hs4):

about the line y = x because two of the coordinates lie on the line itself and other two are mirror images of each other about the line y = x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does that mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im thinking d too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes because it will rotate due same points on x-axis.

OpenStudy (harsimran_hs4):

well D won`t work because rotation by 180 would result in reflection about y axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then whats the answer?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

No it doesn't, @harsimran_hs4 Consider rotating the line y=x 180 degrees wrt the origin, you don't get the line y = -x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im thinking d makes sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well does it?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

I vote yes :)

OpenStudy (harsimran_hs4):

well then tell me what is the reflection of point (-3,1) about line y = x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill notify you if you are correct or not okay?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Easier to see that the reflection of the point (3,2) about the line y=x is (2,3) which is not on the parallelogram.

OpenStudy (harsimran_hs4):

well point is (-3, 1) not (3, 2) i am considering

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Well, now that you mention it, the image is (1,-3)

OpenStudy (harsimran_hs4):

(-3, -3) and (3,3) lie on the line so after reflection they will also lie on the line and remain where they were and (-3, 1) and (3, -1) interchange their position

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

But if it's to be the reflection with respect to the line y=x, then the image of each and every point must still be on the parallelogram, and the image of (-3,1), which is (1,-3) is not on the parallelogram.

OpenStudy (harsimran_hs4):

agreed my bad!! but how does d come out to be the solution?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Because A, B, and C were wrong? lol

OpenStudy (harsimran_hs4):

LOL!! expected some good arguments tough

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

I'm really not good at explaining geometric concepts, these things just come to me sorta instinctively :(

OpenStudy (harsimran_hs4):

cool got hold of it ...... FINALLY I AGREE D IS RIGHT!!
