OpenStudy (anonymous):

;)

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Tricky...

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Let's do this manually :D What's the area of the bottom of the figure? At the bottom, it's 3 times 5 cubes, meaning there are 15 cubes, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ys there are 15

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

So, they're basically just squares, right? What's the area of 15 of those squares?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

45?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

You multiplied 15 to 3 :P the area of one square with a side measuring 3 is what now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

135?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Much better :) We're still not done. At the base of your solid, there are two edges with 5 square faces, and two edges with 3 square faces, right? That makes 5 + 5 + 3 + 3 = 16. What's the total area of 16 of the squares?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry couldnt replie back asap because i had to drop off my sisters

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Well, reply now, then :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is it 16*135

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0r do you add 48 to 135

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help what do you do?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

No, 16 of the squares, that's just 16 times 9, or 144. Add that to 135.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 144+135

OpenStudy (anonymous):

279

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that it?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Well, we're not done yet :) On top of that base, there are 12 more of those squares. What is the total area of those 12 squares? (We're just counting how many squares there are in total. You could have done that before we started, LOL)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 12*45

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

No... 12 x 9. because each square has an area of 3x3 = 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 108

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Now add that, so far 135 + 144 + 108

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

We're still not done yet. There are how many more squares?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

387

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Yep :) 15 x 9 = 135. Now add that, we're done 135 + 144 + 108 + 135

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

It is 15. It's just hard to see

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay so i got 522

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thansk so much for your help

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

No problem :)
