Ok, i need to download java for my laptop so i can do some stuff, but idk how to since i have ubuntu 12.04 does anyone know what to do???

If you want the Oracle version of Java, go to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html and download the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) for Linux there (use the x64 package if you've got the 64-bit version of Ubuntu).

There's also a thing called OpenJDK (an open source clone of the JRE), but I'm not sure how it compares to the Orcale version. You can install that one by running `sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre` (or openjdk-7-jre if you want Java 7) from a command line (or use your package manager to search for that package).

In the terminal tar xvf "yourtarfile".tar.gz with the corrected file name if you're having trouble with the TAR file.
