solve by substitution x-3y=-1 12y=4+4x

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

To do the substitution, you need to rearrange one of the equations to give either x or y int terms of the other. The first equation has a coefficient of 1 in from of x, so it appears to be the easiest. Add 3y to both sides to get x = 3y-1. Now, take the second equation and rewrite it, putting in (3y-1) wherever you see x. Solve the resulting equation for y. With your value of y, use the substitution equation x = 3y-1 to find the value of x.
