I was learning about work(in science) and had a question from a example my teacher gave me. If we are lifting a book and start walking forward WITH the book, won't work be applied to all of the objects I am carrying if I am moving with the book. My Teacher disagreed and said the book is still and will move. Wont that be the same as saying the earth is moving but I am not moving. What is the logical explanation behind this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think the book is not moving in the sense that you're the one that is moving, not the book itself (if you're not swaying your arms). On the EARtH-PEOPLE moving matter, of course, we all know that the earth is moving continuously as well as the human for we are alive, right? so we can not relate it to the book that was carried by someone.
