i need help nvr done these b4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ans in order 1;2;1.5;.2;8/9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you put in fractions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thrid will be 1/2 and rest are in fractions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you've been helped....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 1. is 1 2. is 2. is 2 3 is 1/2 4 is 1.5 and 5 is 8/9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 is -1. what you do on one side, you do to the other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what would 2 be and just to make sure 3 is 1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 is 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 is 1/2 right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and 4 and 5 are ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 is 1.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or 3 is 1.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 is 1.5. i'm going in order.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 is 1/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and 5 is 8/9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm getting 12/4.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you explain though how you get the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i trie but i got it all wrong on the test

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your goal is to isolate the variable on one side. (x, y, m, or whatever they give you)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://www.wikihow.com/Isolate-a-Variable this is what you do except yours has fractions but its basically the same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you explain it to me a different way @mariomintchev

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'll show you an example... 4x + 2 = 6 is the problem. your goal is to to solve for x. (so you have to isolate it) first you can get rid of the 2 by subtracting it from both sides of the equal sign. 4x + 2 = 6 - 2 -2 so we get: 4x = 4 then we need to get rid of the 4 next to the x. we do that by dividing by 4 on both sides. 4x = 4 /4 /4 so we get x = 1 as our final answer. you basically have to remember that you have to separate the variable (x) from everything else. anything that's on the same side as the variable should be removed. you remove it by doing the opposite of what it is currently (if it's x+4=8, you subtract 4 from both sides. if it was x-4=8, you would add 4 to both sides.) remember to always do everything on both sides of the equal sign so it balances out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how would i do that with the first question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i understand what your doing just idnt know how to with these types of questions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you want to get rid of the 2. so since it divides by 2, you multiply by 2 to cancel it and then multiply by 2 on the other side of the equal sign. from then on it's the same as i showed you above. ^^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i multiply -6 by 2 and 15m + 3 by 2 correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

partially, to get rid of the 2 you multiply by 2 on both sides. the 2 on original side goes away... and yes, the you multiply -6 by 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15m + 3 = -12 so you have something that looks like this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so after i multyply -6 by 2 i get -12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i put the -12 after = in 15 m + 3 =

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^^^ i showed you what it looks like when you multiply by 2 on both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15m + 3 = -12 then we subtract 3 from both sides and we get.... 15m = -15 then we divide by 15 on both sides to get...... m = -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it
