For the following system, if you isolated x in the first equation to use the Substitution Method, what expression would you substitute into the second equation?
-x + 2y = -6
3x + y = 8
OpenStudy (anonymous):
-2y + 6
2y - 6 <=== my answer
2y + 6
-2y - 6

@ZeHanz @zepdrix @phi
OpenStudy (zehanz):
Because -x +2y = -6, you can say: -x = -2y -6, so x = 2y + 6
OpenStudy (phi):
how did you get that?

Because i suck at algebra....
OpenStudy (zehanz):
Can you follow the steps I typed?
OpenStudy (zehanz):
First step: subtract 2y
Second step: multiply with -1
OpenStudy (anonymous):
mhmk im writing this down as you go
OpenStudy (zehanz):
So you would substitute 2y + 6 for x in the second equation...

huh?
OpenStudy (zehanz):
Read the question. It is about substitution of x in the second equation with ...something that is equal to x, and you got that from the first equation: x = 2y + 6.
