SAT PLS help: if x and y are integers such that 5

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The largest possible values for x and y are x = 8 and y = 10

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so if the legs were 10 units each, then you'd have to make the base be 8 units (if you needed to use both x and y) so you would have this triangle |dw:1361579929911:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the choices are a)6 b)8 c)10 d)11 e)13

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

are those choices for the perimeter? or x? or y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah theyre for the perimeter :/ and the correct answer is 10 but i dont know why

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

well I used the largest values I could for x and y to get the largest perimeter the perimeter I'm getting is 10+10+8 = 28 but that's not listed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah the question does say it must have three acute angles tho. so maybe that makes a difference?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

well the triangle I drew has 3 acute angles

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I used geogebra to confirm that too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i see, maybe the test book im using is wrong. :/

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

possibly

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

but do you see how I got my answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i definitely think its wrong. i also was thinking along the same lines before i posted so yup

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah me too, happens all the time
