how do you enter b^x on graphing calculator ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you would replace b with any number (say 2) to get 2^x you can't just graph b^x as it is like that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What kind of graphing calculator are you using?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

TI-84 PLUS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you're using the same as I have, you can press the green "alpha" button and then find the variable in green that you're looking for and press that. To do the exponent, you press the "^" button.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant plug b^x in y=

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't think it's possible lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's what I'm talking about lol. I plugged it into y = on my calculator and it doesn't say there's an error or anything, but there isn't a graph for it either.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

probably because there's no real values present

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh i see, thanks for you input :D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what I think it's doing is plotting b^x but it's secretly replacing b with some predefined number I think by default the predefined number is 0, so b = 0 according to the calculator so it's really plotting out b^x = 0^x = 0 which is a flat horizontal line that overlaps the x-axis

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

check the table to confirm this and if it's true, then you should see a y column of 0s

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

also, you can store values into variables (when you hit sto -> and hit another variable), so that will allow you to change the value of b to anything you want
