f(x)=x+2 if x =1

sam (.sam.):

f(x)=x+2 f(1)=1+2=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So f(x) is x+2 correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.Sam. = 3

sam (.sam.):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(x) is 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or x+2

sam (.sam.):

You got it confused, the function is f(x)=x+2 So, when x=1, you write the function as f(1)=1+2, you then ignore the f(x), or you can simply say that what's 1+2. Then, you got 3, Now you can rewrite it back as f(1)=3

sam (.sam.):

The "x" in f(x) is simply "states" that what value of "x" you are substituting into.
