Find the value of y for a given value of x, if y varies directly with x. If y = 61 when x = –305, what is y when x = –315?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

If y varies directly with x, that basically means that y = Kx, where K is some constant. So if y = 61 and x=-305 61 = K(-305) K = ___ So, when x = -315, y = (K)(-315) y = ___

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so multiply -315 by 61? i did that but it wasnt one of the answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. –63 b. 63 c. 1575 d. –1575

OpenStudy (abb0t):

The answer is there. I also explained in detail how to go about this problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand what k is though. how do i figure out k?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

If you have: y = Kx, how would you go about solving for "K". Using algebra?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Rearrange it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dividing y by x?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Yes.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Now, you have: y/x = K K = ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i figured it out, thank you :D
