OCW Scholar - Physics I: Classical Mechanics 16 Online

I'm just getting started. Anyone else planning to study physics independently by completing the entire course?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah that's my plan too. I'm taking this one and Multivariable Calculus (18.02) at the same time. I will say that I find 18.02 much more straightforward than this class problems wise. I'm just at one dimensional kinematics and I find myself baffled by a lot of the challenge problems, they seem to assume that you already know a lot about classical physics...I'm wondering if maybe I need to do some high school physics review for taking this class.

I began this course without having taken high school physics. I also have the Schaums outline of College Physics. That book seems to cover what is probably covered in high school physics. Perhaps it goes further, but it doesn't involve calculus. I find it to be a welcome introduction to physics. I have paused my progress in the MIT course until after I brush up on the Schaums book.

Thanks for the tip, I just bought Schaum's outline for$10 off of Google Play :)...it's on sale if anyone else is interested.

You're welcome Josh. I hope you find it as useful as I have. And I would definitely agree that 18.02 was more straightforward. Maybe that means we're more mathematically oriented. Hmmm, naaa. 8.01 is just plain hard!

Me too planning to study via this course only.

Yep about to start teaching early years physics and need to brush up
