OpenStudy (fools101):

1. How did General Douglas MacArthur react to the events in Korea? What was his stance on the Korean War?: MacArthur wanted to cross the border to hit military and supply units, he also wanted to bomb those supply units and crossing to keep Americans from getting killed. We were fighting the enemy, while the UN was taking credit for the battles. No one in the world cared about the U.S. and the US president only cared about public opinion from FOREIGN governments. His power and the military might to crush anything that the Chinese could have put against us at that time, and there would now be peace in that peninsula. 2. How did President Truman respond to the events in Korea? What was his stance on the Korean War?: He Led a United Nation action against the North, known as the Korean War. 3. Which leader's actions do you agree with—General McArthur's or President Truman's?: President Truman was sinking in the polls during the Korean War. General MacArthur was both "good" and "effective" during the Korean War though admittedly he neglected the intelligence of the Chinese Red Army build up across the border of North Korea into China. 4. Do you think the outcome of the Korean War would have been different had General MacArthur not been fired?: I believe he should have been. I am uncertain whether you mean during the Korean War or WWII, since this question is posted in both categories, but I think he deserved to be removed in both wars. In Korea MacArthur kept questioning the decisions and policies of his Commander in Chief in public, making sure his statements appeared in the press. This is unacceptable in a nation which is supposed to have civilian control of the military. MacArthur had been in the service around fifty years at that point and certainly knew better. He always had a lofty opinion of himself and a low opinion of others, so I feel his actions were really a reaction to the great MacArthur having to take orders from a failed Kansas City haberdasher and ward heeler. Truman had been a captain in WWI; MacArthur had been a brigadier general.
