5. How is constructing a triangle with a relationship of SSS different from construction a triangle with the relationship of SAS?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Do you know what SSS and SAS mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes side-side-side, and side-angle-side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

side-side-side means all sides are the same by there given sides, side-angle-side means the triangle has two sides the same and has a given angle

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Right. You are given a triangle. Now you want to construct a triangle that is congruent to it. If you want to construct a triangle by SSS, you have to transfer the three side lengths to construct the new triangle. That is why it's SSS. If you want to construct the congruent triangle by SAS, then you transfer one side length, then you transfer the angle measure, then you transfer the other side lentgh. This is SAS.
