@terenzreignz please help me here?!?!?!

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

First, factor out what can be factored :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let's start with this x^2+7x+10 find two numbers a and b when u multiply them give u 10 and when u add them give u 7 then write it this way (x+a)(x+b) can y do that????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whoa whoa what??? ^

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Factor out. I don't know how to explain factorisation of polynomials, so I guess I'll leave that to @summer1980 :) You're factoring out the polynomials so that you can see if there are any factors that can be cancelled, thereby simplifying your expression.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@summer1980 5 and 2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ook so now what do i do after i did that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2+7x+10= (x+5)(x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now do the rest the same way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now i have to find 2 #s that can be multiplied and added together to get 18 and 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-18 and -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so -3 and -6? idk i can think of any

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let's check it out (-3)(-6)=18 -3-6=-9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sooo we need to change signs the numbers are 3 and -6 check it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2-3x-18=(x+3)(x-6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok now what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did u get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im lost after x^2-3x-18=(x+3)(x-6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we have not finished yet now we do the last one the same way x^2+x-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a+b=1 ab=-2 what are a and b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3 &-18 ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no no no a=2 b=-1 then we get x^2+x-2=(x+2)(x-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok what would my answer be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@summer1980
