The United States responded to the sinking of the Lusitania by doing which of the following? signing a formal alliance with the Allied powers issuing the Zimmerman Note and declaring war on Mexico issuing Germany an ultimatum and accepting the Sussex Pledge declaring war on Germany and the Central Powers
c?
I think is "B" The United States strongly protested the sinking but otherwise did nothing. Wilson was in possession of the original true manifest of the vessel and knew it was carrying munitions. He believed (falsely as it turned out) that the explosion of these items killed the ship (actual cause probably was a coal dust explosion in one of the bunkers). Wilson did shift American policy strongly toward Britain as a result of the sinking, and his Secretary of State, William Jennings Bryan, was embarrassed before the German Government and obliged to resign. Later, when the Germans resumed unrestricted submarine warfare and tried to get Mexico to preoccupy the U.S. with a border attack, the U.S. declared war on Germany. The sinking of the Lusitania was a precursor to war, but that didn't happen right away.
well when you put it that way..... lol
I KNOW =D hahahah!
Lol can you help me out with a few more?
yerp
yes Jjharley glad to help! ^_^
Which of these describes Wilson’s position on the war during the 1916 campaign? He was undecided because of the divided public opinion. He wanted to keep the U.S. out of war under any circumstances. He hoped to avoid war but expected that the U.S. would be drawn in. He asked the American people to support him in going to war.
C
I think is "C" While Wilson was opposed to the US entering WW I, he realized it might be unavoidable and started military preparations as early as 1915. This became one of the Democrat's issues during the 1916 campaign. The Republicans nominated Charles Evans Hughes and he was considered a "moderate" on the war. His views were very similar to Wilson's--try to avoid war, but be prepared. Because Teddy Roosevelt toured the country supporting US entry into the war, and because he supported Hughes over Wilson, the Republicans became the party who favored the US entering the Great War, in the public's opinion. The election was very close but the anti-war western states went for Wilson and the Democrats narrowly won with an electoral vote of 277 to 254.
wanted to avoid war
Which of these events happened last? Germany declared war against Russia. Russia mobilized its army to support Serbia. France refused Germany’s request to remain neutral. Austria-Hungary sought Germany’s support against Serbia.
Last one!
I think is D (Not sure)
Thanks guys!
Your welcome ^_^
i just did it and b is wrong
I know this post was two years ago, but for those who look back at it the correct answer to the question regarding the sinking of the Lusitania is C. If you read in the lesson, it talks about the Lusitania and there was no action taken. But when the French ship, the Sussex was also attacked by Germany some time later, America gives an ultimatum. This is what the lesson says: This time, Wilson, in a speech to Congress, issued an ultimatum If Germany did not end its attacks on passenger ships, the United States would break off diplomatic relations, which was usually a last step before a declaration of war. On May 4, Germany responded with the Sussex Pledge, which declared a moratorium on unrestricted submarine warfare.
