Try using a ruler or a measuring tape to measure the distance between two cities on a map or a globe. Then estimate the distance between the cities using the map's scale. Discuss the following:
the cities you selected
the scale of the map or the globe
the measurement you made with the ruler or measuring tape
the estimate you made of the actual distance between the cities
how you arrived at your estimate..
