for the second one is it c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi ?

OpenStudy (phi):

I don't see a trivial way to do this. But look at the horizontal diameter of the big circle: it has segments 8, r, and r which add up to the whole diameter 8+2r= 2R or R= r+4 you can replace R-6 and R-r in the little right triangle can you use the pythagorean thm to solve for r ?

OpenStudy (phi):

after which R+r = 2r+4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r=5?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, but they want r+R

OpenStudy (phi):

I replace R-6 with r-2 R-r = 4 and solved for r in (r-2)^2 + 4^2 = r^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

R+r=14 so 14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (phi):

now the next question is it c?
