If a can of ravioli with a diameter of 2 niches and a height of 4.5 inches holds 12 ounces of ravioli, how many ounces of ravioli would a can with the same height, but double the diameter, hold?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9 inches

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so area of a circle is pi *r^2, and then you multiply that by the height for the area of the cylinder. the area of the original cylinder is 56.5inches cubed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and if that holds 12 ounces, you divide that by 12, and get 4.708, meaning for every 4.708 inches cubed you get one ounce of ravioli.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do the same equation for the new area so pi*4^2*4.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which is 226.19, divide it by 4.708 and its 48. it would hold 48 ounces.
