help with prabability
Suppose we have two bowls full of candies. Each bowl contains four different flavours of candy - grape (which are purple), lemon (which are yellow), cherry (which are red) and raspberry (which are also red). (a) We will randomly select one candy from each bowl. The outcome of interest is the flavour of each of the two candies. Write out the complete sample space of outcomes. (b) Suppose instead that we randomly select one candy from each bowl, and the outcome of interest is the colour of each of the two selected candies. Write out the complete sample space of outcomes
What was the matter with the previous solution?
(a) The sample space is as follows: gg lg cg rg gl ll cl rl gc lc cc rc gr lr cr rr
Is lg a different outcome from gl?
yeah, thats what im wondering
i think they are different
@Mertsj lg is different to gl only to the extent that the lemon and grape flavours came out of different bowls in each case.
what about the second one?
is it going to be PP, PY, PR, YY, YR, RR
?
(b) @yashar806 I agree with your sample space on the basis that the order in which the colours are selected from the bowls doesn't matter.
so for the first one , is it ok to say this GG, GL, GC, GR, LL, LC, LR, CC, CR, RR
@yashar806 Yes I agree with your sample space for (a) also.
ok thank you so much
You're welcome :) Thanks to @Mertsj also!
