Simplify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, first start by simplifying the 22-4^2 in the absolute value bars.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Comm.Dan, don't just give the answer. you're supposed to help explain to the person asking how to do it so they understand the process.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, never mind. @NatalieLove, solve (22-4^2) and post what you get.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@tomo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so now you have \[\frac{-|16|^2}{3(-8)+20}\] // now simplify the bottom.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-24+20=-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, so now you have \[\frac{-|16|^2}{-4} = \frac{|16|^2}{4}\] 16 will always be positive so now you can get rid of the absolute value sign. \[\frac{(16)^2}{4}= \frac{(4^2)^2}{4} = \frac{4^{2*2}}{4} = \frac{4^4}{4} = 4^{4}*4^{-1} = 4^{4-1} = 4^{3} = ?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have done this test 6 times and its says its incorrect always different question mines this one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did this one work?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no still says its incorrect im trying one last time cuz everytime i do the test is 40 min i dont have to waste

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my bad, on the top i put 16 instead of 6. i should have been 6. so you have 6^2/4 = 36/4 = 9
