Write the equation y - 2 = 2(x - 3) in standard form. y - 2x = 4 2x - y = -6 2x + y = 6 2x - y = 4

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Standard form is Ax + By = C, with A > 0, B not equal to 0, and A, B, and C all integers, if possible. Use the distributive property on your equation's right hand side, and then rearrange it as needed to put it into standard form.

what would the answer be?? :D

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

What's left on your paper after you follow the steps I described :-)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

I won't give you the answer, but I'll work through it with you and check your work.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

What do you get after you use the distributive property on the right hand side of the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x-6

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Good. Now can you rearrange your equation so that you have y and x on the same side, and any numbers on the other side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

@churrity \[y-2 = 2x-6\]If you want y and x on the same side, you need to subtract y from both sides, or subtract 2x from both sides.
