is it my family drove me and my sister to the library or drove my sister and I?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my sister and I

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think of it this way. If you removed your sister, would it be: "My family drove me to the library." -or- "My family drove I to the library." The first one, right? So actually, the correct format would be: "My family drove my sister and me to the library."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ceann is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my sister and i

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"My sister and I" is *NOT* correct. I can't believe that this error is propagating on an allegedly college level thread.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my sister and me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is it not my sister and I

OpenStudy (bostonblue):

a lot of people get confused on this because when we were little, a lot of us would use "me" when we were supposed to use "I" and we'd get corrected, so then it got drilled into us that "I" was the proper way to say things. but it isn't always. the best way to figure these kinds of situations out, is as the first post suggested above. . . you split it up and say my family drove my sister to the library my family drove me to the library if you said: my family drove I to the library, that wouldn't sound right would it? that wouldn't be the way you'd say it, right? so then you know that it's 'my sister and me"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i agree with ceann

OpenStudy (bostonblue):

yes, you're right, ceann is correct. it was a good answer! but then the question seemed to be raised again. i tried to echo what ceann said, using a slightly different way of explaining it, in case that made it easier for some folks to understand.
