Simplify to lowest terms 9a^2 b^2 ----- - ----- 3a+b 3a+b

OpenStudy (zpupster):

yo do not have middle terms --in the difference of two squares the binomila signs look like this ( + ) ( - ) thus cancelling out the middle terms multiply it out as a check

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not following what you are saying?

OpenStudy (zpupster):

try multiplying 3a+b)(3a-b) see what you get

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not sure if this is correct, 6a^2- 3ab+3ab+b^2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about the 9a^2 and the b^2 ?? I suppose I am just confused on it all.

OpenStudy (zpupster):

remember FOIL F-first O-outside I-Inside L-Last Ok lets try it out First 3a x 3a= 9a^2 Outside 3a x b = -3ab Inside 3a x b = 3ab Last b x b = b^2 We are left with 9a^2 - b^2 the middle terms canceled

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, so that is the lowest terms?

OpenStudy (zpupster):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just wanting to make sure so 9a^2/ 3a+b - b^2/ 3a+b in lowest terms is 9a62 - b^2 ?

OpenStudy (zpupster):

your would look like this (3a+b)(3a-b) lowest terms
