Which of the following is an example of an expressed power? granting professional licenses creating the post offices establishing an air force conducting elections
@Rag433
i dont know what is express power
Okay, I'm assuming we are still talking about the constitution?
yups...
dont know this one? @Rag433 :/
Okay, when you are dealing with powers in constitution there are two types. Expressed Power - A power specifically mentioned in the constitution that congress has. Implied Power - A power that is not mentioned in the constitution but congress needs in order to carry out it's expressed powers. Here are some examples. - To borrow money on the credit of the United States; - To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes; - To establish a uniform rule of naturalization, and uniform laws on the subject of bankruptcies throughout the United States; To coin money, regulate the value thereof, and of foreign coin, and fix the standard of weights and measures; - To provide for the punishment of counterfeiting the securities and current coin of the United States; - To establish post offices and post roads; - To promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries; - To constitute tribunals inferior to the Supreme Court; - To define and punish piracies and felonies committed on the high seas, and offenses against the law of nations; - To declare war, grant letters of marque and reprisal, and make rules concerning captures on land and water; - To raise and support armies, but no appropriation of money to that use shall be for a longer term than two years; - To provide and maintain a navy;
So with those powers mentioned (all of them are in the constitution) which answers seem good to you?
well... it says there "to establish a post office" so i think that one would be the actual answer... lol... i was thinking of the air force.. but that would be an implied power right? thanks once again :)
Yep, the constitution only provides for an Army and a Navy, no Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard. So Post Office would be the right answer,
:D
