Find the intervals on which the function is continous. Y= ^4root(5x-2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Basically they want you to find intervals where \[ 5x-2\geq0 \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so I remember my teacher doind something like (5x-2)^1/4 Do I start it like that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nah, you really only have to remember that when you have even roots, you can't have negative numbers inside.

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

Y= ^4root(5x-2) Can you clean that up? It makes no sense as written.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt[4]{5x-2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its the quad root of 5x-2

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

OK. If you take an even root of an expression, the expression has to be greater than or = 0: the even root of a negative number is imaginary. (Odd roots of negatives are fine.) So, as wio said, figure out where the radicand (5x - 2) is > or = 0.

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

Where the function is defined, it's continuous.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it is defined when x is > or = .4 ?

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

Yes. Good.
