What is the difference between registers and RAM?

Electronically, registers and ram are both memory, but that's where their resemblance stops. Some of the main differences between them are: A register is an integral part of a CPU's structure; ram is external to the CPU A CPU doesn't require a data bus or an address bus to access registers, but it needs both to access ram. Registers are used to manipulate data, ram is used to store it.
