y=3x-27 x-1/3y=9

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

I suppose you want a number for x and y first put the second equation..into slope intercept form like the first equation is meaning isolate y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

okay....we have x-1/3y=9 and we want to make it look like y=mx+b so we need to get "y" by itself on the left side of the equation...how do we do that?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

hint......how do we move "x" to the right side of the equal sign?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

still stuck @ObeyChyna ? heres a rundown x-1/3y=9 subtract x from both sides -1/3y = 9 - x how do we isolate y? multiply by -3 ***Notice that -3 cancels out -1/3**** y = -27 + 3x or written correctly y = 3x - 27 so those are our 2 equations.. y = 3x - 27 and y= 3x - 27 look what we have here...it's the same equation...what does that mean? it means x and y have an infinite number of solutions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you !!! how about this equation----> y=4/3x-2 3y-4x=-6

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

okay ..same difference here we already have an equation in slope intercept form (y=mx+b) so to turn 3y - 4x = -6 into a y = mx + b form how do we do it?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

hint: look at how i did it before with the other equation to help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ook but its still confusing

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

alright...so lets walk through it we have 3y-4x=-6 how do we get 3y by itself on the left side of the equation? how do we move -4x to the right side of the "=" sign?
