How to simplify: x^2 - 49 / x^2 - 14 + 49 This is what I have so far: x^2 - 49 = (x + 7) (x - 7) x^2 - 14 + 49 = x^2 + 35 x^2 + 35 = ?? It's not a perfect square, so I'm not sure what to do from here.

OpenStudy (raden):

i think the denominator is x^2 - 14x + 49

OpenStudy (raden):

and that is can be factored x^2 - 14 + 49 = (x-7)(x-7) now, cancel out the similar terms in numerator and the denominator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There would only leave (x+7)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And you are right about the denominator, sorry.
