Tell me if my answer's right? Write the polynomial in standard form. Then name the polynomial based on its degree and number of terms. 5x + 2x^4 – 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5x – 4 + 2x4; not a polynomial 2x4 + 5x – 4; fourth-degree trinomial <--My answer. 5x + 2x4 – 4; quadratic monomial 2x4 + 5x – 4; cubic binomial

Is it correct?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. the degree is the biggest exponent (4 in this case)

OpenStudy (phi):

standard form is highest order term (i.e. one with the biggest exponent first), going down in order to the term with the smallest exponent. we can think of the - 4 as the term with the zeroth exponent because -4 = -4 x^0 (x^0 is one)

Okay, thank you!
