Choose the equation below that represents the line passing through the point (2, -5) with a slope of -3. y = -3x - 13 y = -3x + 11 y = -3x + 13 y = -3x + 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so -3 slope means that you have -3 on the y-axis and +1 on the x so every 3 you go down from any point then you go one to the right on the x-axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the point (2,-5) shows that you moved twice on the x-axis -> therefore you have moved -6 on the y-axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you start at 0 for the x where do you start for the y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what is the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use this info to figure it out, this is very simple once you understand it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the whole point is that you understand it, once you do the rest of this will be a breeze.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3 slope means -3/1 your slope is -3 "rise" over +1 "run" the one is your "run" at the point (2,-5) you have "run" two times. if you have run 2 times how many times did you "rise"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"rise" is on the y-axis. going either up when the "rise" is positive or down when the "rise" is negative. in this case your "rise" is going down because you have a negative slope. The "run" is on the x-axis. going either to the right when the "run" is positive or to the left when the "run" is negative.

does this make sense?

@Jiimy20110 ??

y = -3x + 1
