OpenStudy (maeganr):

Write the polynomial in standard form. What is the name of the polynomial based on its degree and number of terms? 3+5x+4x^2 I put Quadratic Trinomial and got 1/2 credit. Can someone please help me find the answer? Thanks(:

OpenStudy (maeganr):

@Hope_nicole @kelliegirl33

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Did you change the order of the terms to be descending powers of x?

OpenStudy (maeganr):

What? And no.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You missed this part. "Write the polynomial in standard form" 4x^2 + 5x + 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The degree is 2....right ?

OpenStudy (maeganr):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And the number of terms is 3...right ?

OpenStudy (maeganr):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wouldn't that make it a trinomial ?

OpenStudy (maeganr):

I put Quadratic Trinomial?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would put quartic trinomial

OpenStudy (maeganr):

We havent even learned about quartic?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

NVM...that can't be right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would be quadratic...how is that incorrect. Maybe you only got half credit because you didn't put it in standard form.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Why are we still wondering? You missed this part. "Write the polynomial in standard form" 4x^2 + 5x + 3 It is a Quadratic Trinomial. It was NOT in standard form.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tkhunny is right :)

OpenStudy (maeganr):

ok thanks (:

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

It strikes me as possible that the question may have demanded "Degree 2" rather than "Quadratic". A silly distinction if that was part of the problem.
